Meet the Driver

My name is Tony McKinney, and I am the driver of Novacaine. I live in southwestern Ohio with my wife, four kids, and a hyperactive lab named London. You can usually find me either in our garage at home, or the automotive and performance shop I own in Farmersville. I love to spend my time with my friends and family whenever I’m able to step away from the car. Lee’s is my favorite thing to eat on the road, and I love taking naps. I’m just a guy who’s worked for everything that I’ve got and I’m very proud of everything I’ve come to accomplish so far. I’m living proof of “If you work hard enough at your dream, you’ll make it happen.” Thank you to everyone who’s believed in me from the beginning. Friends and family alike. And a HUGE thank you to all of our sponsors and fans for helping us get to where we are today with this community. We couldn’t have done this without all of you to come along the ride with us. We can’t wait to bring you along for the rest of the journey!

How it all started

It all started back in 1999, when I built my first car that was originally going to be a tow vehicle for my family’s boat. I purchased a 1985 Chevy Blazer and built a small block V8 for it. One day, my friends talked me into taking it out for a test drive at a local track. By the end of the night, I noticed all of the seats were out and we were trying to make it faster and faster with each pass. We raced the Blazer off and on the streets for about 10 years, during which it went through several transformations. I even had it sold at one point just to buy it back. Fast forward a few years, while also rebuilding the Blazer, we built a 1990 Ford Mustang. A car that most of you have come to know as Stepchild. In 2017, I met a lifelong friend named Dean Karns, who you’ve all come to know as the driver of Stinky Pinky. He talked me into going to my very first no-prep race in which I had the honor to be going against Bobby Ducote. I won that race, and I have been hooked ever since. In 2019, we won the No Prep K3 series small tire points championship. During that whole series and while traveling with Dean, he constantly told me he was going to get me into a blower car. And he did just that. Dean got me in touch with the owner of Team Revolution, Joe Minton, and together we built a car and a team that I believe is the best out there. In 2020, we got the invite to race in Mega Cash Days and learned so many things from all involved. All in which turn helped us to thrive with our own vehicle. By the end of 2020, after seeing just what we were up against, we knew that in order to be best of the best, we had to build a new car. And we did. My team built the Screw Blown ‘66 Chevy Nova called Novacaine and we got the official invite to race in the NPK4 series. This was our very first year in the big tire invitational series, and as a rookie with a new car, I say we did pretty good. At the end of that series, we finished 16th overall out of 48 of the best no prep racers in the country. Make sure to keep an eye out for us in 2023 and see what we can accomplish!
